YMEU Halloween Safety Tips
Eat dinner before starting out
Never trick or treat alone
Have at least one adult with young children at all times
Have a flashlight with you
Carry a cell phone with you in case there is an emergency
Stay on sidewalks, If no sidewalk, walk on the left side of the road facing traffic
Make sure costumes fit children properly
Make sure costumes do not drag on the ground
Shoes should fit (not too big )
Avoid wearing masks that obstruct vision, if not possible take it off while walking house to house
Wear costumes and clothing with reflective tape
Stay in familiar neighborhoods
Accept treats at the doorway, do not go inside of a house
Approach only houses that are lit
Don’t play near lit jack-o-lanterns
Be very cautious of strangers
Do not eat any candy until you are home and your parents inspect all of your candy

Keep your property well lit
Make sure your yard is free of anything that someone can trip over such as ladders, ropes, hoses, etc.
Create a clutter free entryway to your doorway for trick-or-treaters
If you have any flame lit decorations, keep them safely away from trick-or-treaters
Pets can become frightened during Halloween, keep them safely inside your home to protect them and trick-or-treaters
Do not invite trick-or-treaters into your home, give them candy from your entryway
Only give candy or treats that are in the original wrapper
